Pistash help centre
Find the essential answers you need to track expiry dates and use Pistash with confidence.
General
What is Pistash?
Pistash helps you track important product dates and use first what needs attention. Food is its main purpose, but you can also organise items stored in your medicine cabinet, cellar or elsewhere.
Is Pistash free?
Yes, with no time limit. The currently available plan lets you track up to 40 active batches and use voice entry without limits.
Which devices can I use Pistash on?
Pistash works in a recent browser on mobile, tablet and desktop. You can add it to your home screen from the browser menu. Notifications depend on device support and permissions.
Adding products
How do I add a product?
From the inventory, tap + and choose manual or voice entry. Check the name, quantity, storage location and date before saving. Pistash remembers the entry method you last used.
How does voice entry work?
Tap the microphone and say the name, quantity and date in one sentence. You can correct the recognised text before analysis, then review every field before saving.
Note: Recognition depends on your browser's support and permissions.
What is the difference between use-by, best-before and a Pistash estimate?
A use-by date is a safety limit copied from the package. A best-before date mainly concerns quality and can generally be passed if the product and package are intact. A Pistash estimate is a guide for a product with no printed date and depends on its condition and storage.
Note: The manufacturer's label or leaflet always takes priority.
How are quantities managed?
For countable products, enter units. For bulk products, choose a weight or volume. If you use or discard only part of a batch, enter that amount and the remainder stays in your inventory.
What does “Open” do?
For supported products, “Open” creates an opened batch with a new estimated date calculated from the opening day. It is only offered when Pistash has suitable after-opening guidance for that product.
Note: Always check the package and correct the date if its instructions differ from the estimate.
What is the difference between use, discard and delete?
“Use” and “Discard” immediately record the relevant quantity in the score. “Delete” removes the entry without adding any consumed or discarded quantity.
Why does the order of suggestions change?
Pistash adapts search to your habits: exact matches come first, followed by products you have actually added most often and most recently. The order is personal to your account.
Can I enter a price?
Yes. The optional price applies to the whole batch, not one unit. It currently serves as a reference on the product page; Pistash does not estimate missing prices or include them in the anti-waste score.
How is the anti-waste score calculated?
For each month, the score compares quantities consumed and discarded relative to each batch’s initial quantity. Partial actions count immediately: consuming 400 g then discarding 100 g from a 500 g jar gives 80%. A tier appears after the equivalent of 5 processed batches.
Note: The free plan shows the last 3 months. Prices and deleted entries are not included.
Notifications
How do reminders work?
If notifications are enabled, Pistash sends at most one reminder when an active batch enters the urgent period, around three days before its date. The message adapts to the saved date type.
How do I enable or disable notifications?
Open My account, then Notifications. Your browser must support notifications and allow them for Pistash. If blocked, enable them first in the browser settings.
Why am I not receiving notifications on iPhone?
On iPhone and iPad, first add Pistash to the home screen from the Share menu, then open that installed version to enable notifications.
Note: Requires iOS or iPadOS 16.4 or later.
Storage locations
Which storage locations are available?
Fridge, freezer, cupboard, medicine cabinet, cellar and “other”. Inventory filters can combine one or more locations with the urgent or full view.
Can a product be stored in several places?
Yes, one batch can have several locations, but it keeps one quantity and one date. If separately stored portions have different dates—for example fridge and freezer—create two batches instead.
How do I quickly find a product?
Use inventory search and filters. Show urgent products only or all products, then narrow the result to one or more storage locations.
My account
How do I change my account information?
Open My account to change options, username, email address, password and notifications. Help and Support are available in the same section.
How do I clear my inventory without deleting my account?
In My account, use “Clear inventory”. All saved products are removed, while your account and settings remain.
Note: Product deletion is permanent.
How do I keep my account secure?
Use a long, unique password. Never share your sign-in code or password. If you suspect unauthorised access, change your password immediately from My account.
How do I delete my account?
Open My account, then “Delete account”. Enter your password and confirm the warning: your account and associated personal data will be deleted.
Note: Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
